Renton Park Elementary School

Summary:

Renton Park Elementary School is a public elementary school in Renton, Washington, serving 371 students from kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the Renton School District. Despite having a diverse student population and relatively high per-student funding, the school consistently underperforms academically compared to the district and state averages.

Renton Park Elementary struggles to support the academic achievement of its students, with only 26.01% proficient in English Language Arts, 23.84% in math, and 23.64% in science - significantly lower than the Renton School District and the state of Washington. The school ranks in the bottom 25% of Washington elementary schools, particularly for Hispanic, English Language Learner, and Low Socioeconomic Status students. This 0-star rated school is an outlier compared to nearby schools like Maplewood Heights Elementary and Lake Youngs Elementary, which significantly outperform Renton Park in academic measures.

Despite the school's relatively high per-student spending of $21,177 and a low student-teacher ratio of 16.3, these resources do not seem to translate into improved academic outcomes for the students. The high rate of 71.97% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch indicates a significant level of economic disadvantage among the student population, which may be a contributing factor to the school's persistent challenges. Addressing these issues will require a comprehensive review of the school's educational strategies, resource allocation, and support systems to improve outcomes for all students at Renton Park Elementary.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Verbal, and physical abuse by playground staff is the norm here. Principal is "new", and not very helpful in addressing any issue.
15 minutes for students to eat each day before being moved outside means thousands of dollars in wasted food.
This in turn leads to hungry students who can't focus as well as they would had they actually eaten.
When parents complain, the staff act concerned. However, no changes are ever made. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
