Summary

Kokanee Elementary is a top-ranked public school serving about 650 students in grades K-5 within the highly-regarded Northshore School District in Woodinville, WA.

The school is a consistent academic leader, ranking in the 96th percentile statewide with over 80% of students proficient in English, math, and science, significantly outperforming district and state averages. It stands out for its exceptional math scores and is particularly effective in supporting English Language Learner students. While similar in performance to other elite schools like Fernwood Elementary and Canyon Creek Elementary, Kokanee achieves these results with efficient per-student spending and a favorable student-teacher ratio.

Analysis shows Kokanee's performance is strong across grades, though there is a noted focus on maintaining math excellence into the upper grades. The school has recently faced challenges in serving its special education population, which is an area of focus. Compared to nearby schools like Woodin Elementary or Woodmoor Elementary, Kokanee's academic outcomes are notably higher, and its success highlights that factors beyond funding, such as instructional quality and community support, are key drivers of student achievement.

Open Quote I had the honor to come visit the School for a planned Veteran's Day Assembly, at 09:30 AM, Tuesday, 10 November 2015. I was visiting as a "Retired Veteran". I was very impressed as the children filed out to go to the Gym & be seated. The Stage had already been set up. The students performed by making a number of small speeches, the Cub Scouts did the Flag Ceremony, and Patriotic songs were sung. All in all exceptionally impressive to this old man. My heart was bursting with pride! Wow!

I was told approximately 725 kids attend this School. and I'm sure most of them were at the Assembly! I cannot express how impressed I was to be able to attend this assembly! I was invited by a girl student (friends of the family), and my first opinion was to say I was busy, but then reconsidered, changed an appointment and went. Needless to say; That was a very good decision! Thank you Kokanee School for an outstanding look at your School today! Many people thanked me for my service, but trust me; I thank YOU all for the atmosphere these children are learning in. Thank you very much! Close Quote

Open Quote I have read far and wide on this school and the obvious upward trend in virtually all categories is a testament to hard work and dedication. In this day and age, everything gets cut back by government, do more with less. Sadly, the students are the true victims. For any school system to not only maintain programs, but also to enhance these programs, and build a desire in the students to embrace their education as a path to their success is an achievement anyone can be, and should be proud of. Teaching a child is everyone's responsibility, not just the teacher, not just the parent -- everyone. There is so little time to get it right. There are always going to be some naysayers in background, but to them, I would pose this question: are you part of the problem, or part of the solution? You can't be neither, and you can't be both. Thank you educators for who you are, and what you do. Close Quote
