Summary

Marysville Middle School is a public school serving 656 students in grades 6-8 within the Marysville School District, which ranks in the bottom quarter of all districts in Washington state.

Academically, the school faces significant challenges, with student proficiency in core subjects like English, Math, and Science falling well below both district and state averages; for example, only about 18% of students are proficient in math, compared to 43% statewide. The school's statewide ranking has declined over the past decade, now placing it in the bottom 10% of middle schools. Notably, performance in 8th-grade math is particularly low at just 12% proficiency. While the school spends over $18,000 per student, which is relatively high, these resources have not translated into stronger academic outcomes. There are some areas of relative strength, as the school has shown effectiveness in supporting its English Language Learner students.

The school's performance stands in contrast to several nearby options. Within the same district, Cedarcrest School achieves much higher proficiency rates. More striking comparisons exist just a few miles away in higher-performing districts, such as Lake Stevens Middle School and North Middle School in Everett, which serve similar student populations but achieve proficiency rates more than double those at Marysville Middle. This suggests that broader district-level support and policies may play a major role in a school's success.

Open Quote Even though this might not be the best school, it does offer advanced classes that are better than any other school in the area. The band program is also phenomenal and many students who participate in it tend to be in advanced classes and continue their grades throughout school. Some of the teachers here are ones I will continue to visit even after I graduate. Close Quote
