Summary

Redmond Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 543 students in the highly-regarded Lake Washington School District in Redmond, WA, with a history of strong performance that has recently seen a slight dip in its statewide ranking.

While part of a top-tier district, the school serves a student population with greater economic needs than many of its neighbors, such as Horace Mann Elementary or Norman Rockwell Elementary. This coincides with a recent decline in test scores, particularly in 5th-grade math, placing its proficiency rates below the district average. However, the school maintains a low student-teacher ratio of 13.5-to-1, which is better than most nearby schools and suggests potential for more individualized support.

The data shows Redmond Elementary has specific strengths, including a historical effectiveness in supporting English Language Learners. Its main challenge is improving outcomes for economically disadvantaged students, an area where its performance lags. Compared to a school like Ardmore Elementary School in the neighboring Bellevue School District, all Lake Washington schools in this comparison perform significantly better, highlighting the advantage of the district's systems and support.

Open Quote This school is not supportive for kids with special needs. My daughter has anxiety issues and the teachers that we have experienced framed her as someone with behavioral problems and keep punishing her by withholding her recess unless the parents acknowledge them. We were hoping to communicate with the teachers to work out a solution but the principal stepped in and is downhill from there. There is a strong correlation to when my daughter has her recess withheld to when we wanted to talk to the teachers to find a positive solution. Good luck communicating with the school to address just a simple emotional need of anxiety. Run from this school, it's hopeless and rotten from the top. Close Quote
