Summary

Lincoln Elementary is a public K–5 school serving 334 students in Ellensburg, Washington, as part of the Ellensburg School District. The school is similar in size to nearby elementary schools and serves a community with moderate economic need: 48.5% of students qualified for free or reduced-price lunch in 2024–25. Lincoln’s current statewide ranking is in the 51st percentile, but its longer-term progress is encouraging, rising from the 20th percentile in 2020–21. Its 15.6:1 student-teacher ratio is close to Valley View Elementary School and somewhat higher than Mt. Stuart Elementary.

Lincoln’s clearest academic strengths are science and math. In 2025–26, 56.67% of students were proficient in science, ahead of both the district and state and slightly higher than the results at Mt. Stuart, Ida Nason Aronica Elementary, and Valley View. Math proficiency was 48.57%, about 6 percentage points above the district and 5.5 points above the state. Third-grade math was particularly strong at 63.46%. Science has also been consistently strong, exceeding the statewide rate in each of the four reported years. However, later-grade math is less consistent: fifth-grade proficiency was 39.66%, above the district but below the state.

English language arts is Lincoln’s main opportunity for improvement. The 2025–26 all-grade ELA rate was 49.14%, below both the district and state, with fourth grade especially weak at 46.15%. Lincoln also trailed Ida Nason Aronica and Valley View in overall ELA and math, although it outperformed Mt. Stuart in all three tested subjects. Outcomes for economically disadvantaged students and Hispanic students are areas to monitor, particularly because the latest subgroup rankings were below Lincoln’s overall ranking and changed substantially from prior years. These results merit deeper review rather than simple conclusions, since subgroup performance can vary with enrollment and cohort size. Overall, Lincoln appears to be a recovering, middle-performing school with strong STEM-related results and a need to strengthen literacy outcomes.

Both of our daughters attended Lincoln and I still volunteer there. It is a vibrant, enthusiastic school with excellent teachers and very devoted principal, JoAnne Duncan. The emphasis is on caring and learning, with everyone pulling together for the kids. I love the Lincoln community! Close Quote
