Cedarcrest Middle School is a 765-student school serving grades 6–8 in Spanaway, part of the Bethel School District. The school serves a relatively high-need community, with 62.61% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Cedarcrest ranks in the 24th percentile among Washington middle schools for 2025–2026, considerably below the district’s 51st-percentile standing. It also ranks last among the six nearby Bethel middle schools: Spanaway Middle School ranks at the 57th percentile, while Cougar Mountain Middle School ranks at the 56th percentile.

Assessment results show that Cedarcrest trails both district and state averages in every tested subject. Proficiency is 38.97% in English language arts, 23.98% in math, and 27.27% in science. Science is the largest concern, with Cedarcrest about 18 percentage points below the average for the other nearby Bethel middle schools. Math is also weak, although it has improved from 19.77% in 2022–2023. Seventh grade is the school’s strongest grade in ELA and math, while eighth grade is the clearest weakness: only 17.37% of eighth graders were proficient in math and 32.56% in ELA.
