Summary

Stevenson Elementary is a PK–5 school serving 581 students in Bellevue, Washington, within the Bellevue School District, a high-performing district in an area with several nearby elementary schools. For 2025–2026, Stevenson ranked in the 27th percentile statewide and received a 1-star rating. This was an improvement from the 11th percentile the previous year, but the school remains well below its 51st-percentile result in 2015–2016.

The clearest concern is academic performance, especially English Language Arts (ELA). Stevenson’s 2025–2026 proficiency rates were 27.05% in ELA, 38.46% in math, and 48.65% in science, compared with district rates of 73.43%, 69.61%, and 72.30%. ELA results rose from 14.08% in 3rd grade to 39.73% in 5th grade, but remained far below district levels. Science is a relative strength and improved substantially from 27.78% to 48.65% in one year. Effectiveness rankings were particularly low for Hispanic students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, indicating a need for targeted support while avoiding conclusions about individual students. Stevenson’s 14.7:1 student-teacher ratio and $24,790 per-student spending are relatively favorable, so resources alone do not appear to explain the results.

Nearby comparisons show a substantial local performance divide. Cherry Crest Elementary School posted 90.21% ELA and 91.13% math proficiency, while Woodridge Elementary posted 78.71% and 78.46%. Even closer schools such as Puesta del Sol Elementary School and Phantom Lake Elementary substantially outperformed Stevenson. Sherwood Forest Elementary, Ardmore Elementary School, and Lake Hills Elementary are more similar in overall standing. Overall, the data point to sustained priorities in early literacy, ELA instruction, and focused student support, while science’s recent progress may offer useful practices to adapt.

Open Quote Eh, it was an OK experience for me. I'm a middle school student living in Texas now, and I used to live in Bellevue, where I attended Stevenson for kindergarten through 3rd grade. The teachers were nice, but the education definitely could have been better. The extracurricular activities (music, art, p.e., etc.) were amazing, though! I remember music as my favorite class of the week. Of course, that was years back. I suppose everything has changed now. Judging from the horribly low test score this and last year, I don't think your children should attend Stevenson. I would suggest enrolling your child in a private school. Close Quote
