Lake Hills Elementary

Summary:

Lake Hills Elementary is a public elementary school in Bellevue, Washington, serving 434 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Bellevue School District. While the district is highly ranked, Lake Hills Elementary has consistently underperformed academically compared to the district and state averages.

Lake Hills Elementary's academic performance is a significant concern, with only 39.9% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts and 36.18% proficient or better in Math, compared to 74.82% and 68.45% in the Bellevue School District, respectively. The school also has a more diverse student population, with 40.78% Hispanic and 12.44% African American students, and a higher percentage of students (66.13%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch. In contrast, nearby schools like Somerset Elementary, Spiritridge Elementary, and Puesta del Sol Elementary have significantly higher academic achievement, with proficiency rates 30-50 percentage points higher in both English Language Arts and Math.

The consistent underperformance at Lake Hills Elementary, along with the significant achievement gaps between different racial groups, suggests that the school faces significant challenges in providing a high-quality education to all students. The high percentage of students from low-income families may be a contributing factor, and addressing these socioeconomic disparities will be crucial for improving the educational outcomes at the school.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My daughter goes to Kindergarten in Lake Hills. I don't find any reason why it has been low rated. May be rating is based in results from grade 3 to 5.

I spoke to few other parents and they are also so satisfied with the staff and the teachers. We get regular home works, interaction with the staff and principal. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
