That is below the district's overall 4-star rating and behind several nearby schools, including Princess Anne Middle (ranked 17th), Old Donation School (20th), and Salem Middle (84th), but ahead of Corporate Landing Middle, Kempsville Middle, Brandon Middle, Larkspur Middle, and Bayside Middle. Landstown's free/reduced-price lunch rate is 39.3%, very close to Salem's 36.1%.

Academically, Landstown shows real strengths. Reading proficiency runs 80–84% across grades 6–8, well above state averages, and advanced math and science outcomes are outstanding: geometry and Algebra I proficiency are near or at 100%, and Earth Science is at 97%. Overall rankings have slipped two straight years, and effectiveness measures show widening gaps for African American, low-income, disabled, and military-connected students — the last group falling from the 79th to 38th percentile since 2023–24. The Salem Middle comparison is instructive: nearly identical demographics and funding, yet Salem outperforms Landstown in 8th grade math (58.5% vs. 42.6%), science, and civics, suggesting meaningful improvement may be achievable.
