North Sanpete Middle

North Sanpete Middle in Moroni, Utah, is a public school serving 355 students in grades 7–8 within the rural North Sanpete District, about 12 miles from Ephraim Middle and 19 miles from Juab Junior High. The school is currently ranked 135th of 217 Utah middle schools, placing it in the 38th percentile, and has a 2-star rating. Its academic results are generally close to district results but below state averages in most subjects. In 2025–2026, proficiency ranged from 32.5% in eighth-grade math to 62.3% in eighth-grade science.

Grade 8 science is the school’s clearest strength: 62.3% of students were proficient, above Utah’s 50.8% and nearly equal to Ephraim Middle’s 63.4%. It also substantially exceeded Juab Junior High’s 27.5% in that subject. However, Ephraim was stronger in five of the six other comparable grade-subject areas, often by about 19–25 percentage points. North Sanpete’s ranking has also declined from the 74th–78th percentile range in 2020–2022 to the current 38th percentile, making improvement in math, seventh-grade science, and ELA important priorities.

Attendance and staffing are relative positives. Chronic absenteeism was 18.4% in 2024–2025, better than both Ephraim’s 24.2% and Juab’s 24.8%, though slightly above the district’s 16.6%. The student-teacher ratio improved notably to 17.1:1, more favorable than Juab’s 20.9:1 and Ephraim’s 20.5:1. About 55.77% of students qualified for free or reduced-price lunch, a higher share than at either comparison school, so school results should be considered in that context without overlooking the need for stronger academic outcomes. Overall, the school has a durable science strength, favorable attendance, and improving staffing conditions, but broad academic gains are needed to reverse its ranking decline.
