Summary

Dos Mundos Academy is a public school in West Valley City serving 455 students in prekindergarten through sixth grade in the competitive Granite District area, where several nearby schools offer families alternatives within roughly 1.65 miles. The school ranks 503rd of 563 Utah schools for 2025–2026, placing it at the 11th percentile, although that is an improvement from 555th of 561 and the 1st percentile in 2023–2024. Its current rating is one star, and the 2024–2025 student-teacher ratio was 22.1:1.

Recent academic results show improvement from a very low starting point, especially in upper elementary grades, but performance remains below district and state averages in nearly every tested area. Fifth grade is a relative strength: 26.3% of students were proficient in English language arts, 27.1% in math, and 40.8% in science. Fourth-grade math also reached 33.3%, close to the district’s 36.9%. The clearest weaknesses were third-grade math, at 17.1%, and fourth-grade science, at 20.3%. Nearby Neil Armstrong Academy—only 0.48 miles away—performed much better in every reported subject and ranked at the 51st percentile. West Valley School also outperformed Dos Mundos across tested grades and ranked at the 26th percentile. In contrast, Dos Mundos generally performed better than Philo T. Farnsworth School and Monroe School.

One notable strength is the school’s relative effectiveness with Hispanic students and English learner students: those subgroups ranked at the 46th and 55th percentiles, respectively, in the latest data. Results for the low socioeconomic status subgroup were weaker, at the 19th percentile. Chronic absenteeism improved from 35.0% in 2022–2023 to 30.5% in 2024–2025, nearly matching the district but remaining above Utah’s 23.8% rate. Overall, parents should view Dos Mundos as a school showing encouraging gains—particularly in fourth and fifth grades and among English learners—while still needing focused improvement in early literacy, third-grade math, fourth-grade science, attendance, and outcomes for economically disadvantaged students.
