Summary

Calvin S. Smith School is a public school in the Taylorsville area serving 525 students from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade in the Granite District.

The school’s latest results are notably stronger than the district’s overall standing. For 2025–2026, Calvin S. Smith School ranked 108th out of 563 Utah schools, placing it in the 81st statewide percentile and earning four stars. That was a substantial improvement from 254th place and the 54th percentile the prior year. The school also outperformed Westland School, Viewmont School, and Grant School in its current overall ranking, while ranking well above Fox Hills School, Bennion School, Heartland School, Oquirrh School, and Plymouth School. Mathematics improved in every reported grade, although fifth-grade math remained below the state average at 40.8%, making it the clearest area to monitor. Attendance is another positive: chronic absenteeism declined to 19.8% in 2024–2025, below the Granite District rate of 30.6% and Utah’s 23.8%. The school’s reported free- or reduced-price lunch rate was 19.43%, lower than at most nearby comparison schools, an important context when evaluating performance differences.

Open Quote School is cutting down teachers and keep saying this is out of their hands while other schools manage to not cut their teachers. Not pleased with principal, no strategy or real vision for the school, does not seek real parental input, only wants to make their decisions and then announce to school without parents having a chance to voice their concerns. School is declining on academic performance. Go to another school until there's a new principal. Close Quote

Open Quote I would love to rate this school. We had my grandchildren in there a few years ago and the principal is so unfair, sides with the teachers we decided to take them out.
Through health issues of the parents we were forced to put them back in. The teachers make fun of them and bully them if they don’t know an answer to the point that it has made them cry. They are unfair leaning towards a trouble maker , a boy that bullies the kids. I have talked to the principal several times with no help at all. So if you choose this schoole then be prepared to have your child be bullied and the principal does absolutely nothing. I would Home teach before I would ever send a child to that school. These are my opinions and I think it horrible when a child is sick to tell her she needs to be in school. How sad. The kid was sick. And my grandson was made to cry in class by the teacher and was told he can’t go on an outing that the school is having. No matter what a child does no one should be singled out. He did nothing wrong . So be very careful of this principal and her pose of teachers that nothing is done. Oh and they call in one set of parents but not the other. Totally unfair. Horrible horrible school and staff. Beware. Close Quote
