Summary:

Uintah District serves about 6,482 students in 12 schools across elementary, middle, and high school grades in and around Vernal and rural Uintah County. The district ranks 33rd among Utah’s 92 districts, but school quality varies considerably. Parents will find several strong academic options, along with schools facing significant attendance and achievement challenges.

Maeser School is the district’s standout elementary school, ranking in the 93rd statewide percentile with a five-star rating and especially strong mathematics results. Discovery School is another strong elementary option, ranking in the 80th percentile and performing well in mathematics and science. Vernal Middle is the stronger middle school academically, particularly in mathematics, while Uintah High ranks above the statewide midpoint, has an 89.3% graduation rate, and performs better than Utah averages in high-school mathematics. Lapoint School may have strong science performance, but its results are reported as ranges rather than exact percentages.

The most important districtwide concern is chronic absenteeism: the district rate is 50.9%, more than twice Utah’s 23.8% rate. Rates are particularly high at Eagle View School and Ashley Valley Education Center, and are also elevated at several elementary schools, including Maeser and Discovery despite their strong test results. Uintah Middle School trails Vernal Middle in mathematics, while Ashley School, Naples School, and Davis School show more mixed results. Families considering smaller or specialized programs such as Uintah Online School should remember that small enrollment, missing data, and reported ranges can make comparisons less precise.
