Naples School is a public elementary school in Vernal, Utah, serving 456 students in kindergarten through fifth grade as part of Uintah District. The school has made impressive recent progress: it ranks 226th of 563 Utah schools, at the 60th percentile, compared with the 26th percentile in 2017–18. Naples serves a relatively high-need community, with 52.63% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, and its student-teacher ratio was 21.2:1 in 2024–25.
Recent academic gains are strongest in mathematics and science. In 2025–26, math proficiency reached 55.3% in third grade, 51.5% in fourth grade, and 52.7% in fifth grade—above the Utah average in each grade. Science was even stronger, with 61.4% proficiency in fourth grade and 61.1% in fifth grade, both above state and district results. English Language Arts remains the clearest area for improvement: proficiency averaged about 44.3% across grades 3–5, below both the district and state averages. Compared with nearby schools, Naples performed better than Ashley School in every reported tested subject and generally compared favorably with Davis School. However, Maeser School and Discovery School had higher scores and rankings.
Attendance is Naples’ most serious operational concern. Chronic absenteeism reached 68.3% in 2024–25, higher than the district rate of 50.9%, the Utah rate of 23.8%, and the rates at all nearby comparison schools. Continued attendance challenges could make it harder to sustain academic momentum. At the same time, Naples earned an 86th-percentile statewide ranking for effectiveness with low-income students, a notable strength given the school’s student population. Overall, Naples appears to be improving quickly, especially in math and science, while focusing future efforts on literacy and attendance could help close the remaining gap with the area’s highest-performing schools.
