High Schools in Provo District

Provo District includes three high schools serving grades 5–12: Timpview High (9–12), Provo High (7–12), and Independence High (5–12), with about 4,600 students overall in the Provo area. The schools differ significantly in size and performance, so districtwide statistics do not fully reflect the experience at each campus.

Timpview High is the clear standout. It ranks 35th of 139 schools, is in the 75th percentile, and has a four-star rating. It also reports the highest graduation rate at 94.1%, the lowest dropout rate at 3.6%, and the lowest chronic absenteeism at 11.9%. Timpview leads the other schools in every reported 2025–26 testing category, with especially strong English language arts results. Its average proficiency across the six reported subject-grade combinations was about 48%, compared with about 36% at Provo High. Timpview’s results improved substantially after a ranking decline the previous year.

Provo High is a large school showing encouraging progress. Its ranking improved from 118th to 99th, and proficiency increased in all six comparable testing categories. Its 91.1% graduation rate and 20.8% chronic absenteeism rate are slightly better than district and state comparisons, although mathematics remains a notable weakness. Independence High is much smaller and serves a broader grade range, so comparisons require caution. It has the lowest graduation rate at 68.8%, the highest dropout rate at 21.2%, and chronic absenteeism of 50.9%. Its reported academic results are also the weakest. For families considering this school, attendance support, credit completion, graduation pathways, and student engagement are especially important questions. Overall, Provo District offers a strong-performing option in Timpview, an improving comprehensive school in Provo High, and a smaller specialized setting at Independence with substantially greater support needs.
