Summary:

Vanguard Academy is the only school in this area, serving students in grades 7–12 in West Valley City, Utah. The public school enrolls 623 students and has a four-star rating, ranking in roughly the top fifth of its comparison group. Its student population includes a high share of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, while the school maintains a 21:1 student–teacher ratio.

The school’s biggest strength is mathematics. In 2025–26, Vanguard Academy exceeded Utah proficiency rates in math for every reported grade. The largest advantages were in grades 9 and 10, where 63.9% and 55.9% of students were proficient, compared with 39.4% and 29.4% statewide. Science was also generally strong, with the school outperforming Utah in grades 7, 8, and 10. English language arts results were more uneven: grades 8 and 10 were above the state, but grades 7 and 9 were below it. Parents may want to pay particular attention to literacy support during the transitions into grades 7 and 9.

Attendance is another notable strength. Chronic absenteeism was 9.3% in 2024–25, far below Utah’s 23.8%, and the reported graduation rate was 89.8%. Recent academic changes were mixed: high-school math improved from the prior year, while 8th-grade math fell sharply and ELA declined in grades 9 and 10. Even so, the school remained highly ranked, moving from 17th of 138 schools to 30th of 139 while retaining four stars. Overall, Vanguard Academy appears strongest in math, generally solid in science and attendance, and most in need of focused improvement in ELA and middle-school math.
