High Schools in Box Elder District

Box Elder District has three high schools serving about 2,996 students across grades 5–12: Box Elder High and Bear River High serve grades 10–12, while Sunrise High School serves grades 5–12. Overall, the district has strong graduation results, but academic performance, attendance, and completion outcomes vary considerably by school.

Box Elder High is the strongest all-around performer in the available data. It has a 90.9% graduation rate, the district’s lowest chronic absenteeism rate at 20.0%, and the highest 2025–26 proficiency results in English Language Arts, mathematics, and science among schools with reported scores. Its ELA proficiency was 53.2%, above both the district and state, while mathematics and science remained below state levels and should be improvement priorities. Its graduation rate was 83.2% and dropout rate 14.2%, both the weakest among the three schools. Chronic absenteeism was 30.3%, below the district average but above the state rate. School-level science results for Sunrise are suppressed, so no conclusion should be drawn about its science performance. Across the district, ELA is relatively competitive with the state, while mathematics and science are the clearest academic needs. The most important priorities appear to be sustaining Box Elder’s strengths, addressing Bear River’s attendance and science challenges, and improving graduation, dropout prevention, and student supports at Sunrise.
