Summary

Del Valle High School is a large public high school in El Paso, TX, serving 1,798 students in grades 9-12 within the Ysleta Independent School District (Isd), where over 83% of students come from low-income households. This school is a standout for its exceptional support of students who often face the biggest challenges, ranking in the 83rd percentile statewide for English Language Learners and the 80th percentile for low-income students—far outperforming nearby schools like Ysleta High School and Socorro High School that serve similar communities. It also excels with Hispanic students (78th percentile) and special education students (73rd percentile), showing a strong commitment to helping every child succeed.

Del Valle is a school on the rise, climbing from the 50th percentile statewide in 2022-2023 to the 67th percentile in the most recent ranking year, a clear sign that recent efforts are paying off. Its graduation rate is solid at 91.8%, nearly 3 points higher than the district average, and competitive with more affluent schools like Americas High School (92.5%). Biology is a particular strength, with an 80% proficiency rate that tops all nearby comprehensive high schools, including Eastlake High School (73.34%) and Socorro High School (64.51%). However, Algebra I remains a weak spot at 67.22% proficiency, and the school struggles to challenge its highest-achieving students, ranking only in the 52nd percentile for Gifted and Talented learners.

What makes Del Valle’s achievements even more impressive is the competitive landscape. Just two miles away, Mission Early College High School in the Socorro Independent School District (Isd) ranks in the 97th percentile and likely draws some top students away, yet Del Valle still delivers strong results for its remaining student body. The school also uses its resources wisely, spending $9,930 per student—less than Ysleta High School ($10,080) and far less than alternative schools like Keys Academy ($52,813)—while achieving far better outcomes. For parents, Del Valle is a neighborhood school that works hard to lift up all its students, especially those who need the most support.

Open Quote One of the best schools of El Paso, both academically and athletic wise. They won two times in a row soccer state champions. They also had 2 of the 5 passing AP chemistry test in the YISD. Close Quote

Open Quote I attended this high school, and graduated Class of 08. Overall, even though I have to give some credit to the administration for trying, the education you will get at this high school is completely substandard. Many of the faculty members are completely unsuited to teach the material, and their attempts to do so are notably incompetent. As far as the student body goes, the majority are completely unmotivated...if you're looking for academic camaraderie, you will certainly not find it here. Also, there is a notable number of behavioral disturbances which occur at the school on a yearly basis; it is definitely not a very secure environment. Close Quote
