Summary

Harmony Science Academy (El Paso) is a public charter school in El Paso, TX, serving 1,034 students in grades 6 through 12, with about 74% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, indicating a predominantly low-income community.

This school stands out for its exceptional performance in mathematics, particularly Algebra I, where 75.41% of students were proficient in the 2025-2026 school year—far exceeding the state average of 54.03% and outperforming nearby comprehensive high schools like Socorro High School (26.98%) and Americas High School (48.39%). It also provides outstanding support for its most vulnerable students, ranking in the 91st percentile for Special Education students and the 90th percentile for low-income students in 2024-2025. The school boasts a perfect 0.0% dropout rate and a near-perfect 99% graduation rate, matching the retention of elite local schools like Young Women's Leadership Academy and Mission Early College High School. Additionally, it is a cost-effective option, spending $10,441 per student—significantly less than alternative schools like Options High School ($26,566) and Keys Academy ($52,813).

Despite these strengths, the school has seen a recent decline in its overall state ranking, dropping from a 4-star to a 3-star rating in 2025-2026, now ranking in the 63rd percentile. This dip appears driven by a relative drop in middle school reading and math scores, such as 8th-grade Reading proficiency falling from 65% to 55.95%. While the school excels in math and history compared to nearby comprehensive high schools like Del Valle High School (67th percentile) and Ysleta High School, it lags in English I and II Reading. As part of the Harmony Public Schools - West Texas district, the school’s future success hinges on reversing this academic slide while maintaining its high graduation and low dropout rates.

Open Quote The Turkish teachers are not certified to teach in Texas (according to the SBEC website). Their English is really bad, poor spelling, terrible accent, even their handwriting is bad. They don't understand the American culture. The money is wasted in things that don't benefit the students, like their recent 10th Year Anniversary Gala dinner. But the Robotics team had to sell spaghetti and Ray Ban sunglasses to be able to attend a competition in San Antonio. Students' bathrooms have no soap most of the time. Cafeteria food is terrible, but the concession for the food preparation is owned by the wife of Mayor John Cook. They make people believe that their main focus is mathematics and science, when most of their math and science teachers are Turkish, and not certified. The other "main focus" is computers, but recently they got rid of the computer lab in the Elementary School building to leave room for an addition to their daycare, "Bluebonnet Learning Center", which is another big source of income. Open Quote I find that Harmony Science Academy is not nearly as competent as they say they are. The school's statisctics and brochures are quite misleading. The school has a poor selection of classes and extracurricular activities (which is to say that if the student is not interested in robotics, the school is useless for him/her). The school also lacks the proper science lab equiptment. The money is misused and the administration is incompetent. Close Quote
