Summary

Northwood Hills Elementary is a public elementary school in Dallas, Texas, serving 366 students in grades K-6. It is part of the Richardson Independent School District (ISD), which is ranked 382 out of 961 school districts in the state.

Northwood Hills Elementary has consistently ranked in the lower half of Texas elementary schools over the past 10 years, with its performance on STAAR tests generally below the district and state averages across grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the percentage of students proficient or better in STAAR Reading ranged from 34.78% (3rd grade) to 40% (6th grade), compared to the district's 54.96% to 56.03% and the state's 52.02% to 54.21%. Similarly, in STAAR Mathematics, Northwood Hills Elementary's proficiency rates ranged from 30% (3rd grade) to 35.87% (5th grade), while the district and state had higher rates. The school also has a relatively high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, with 60.11% to 65.71% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in recent years.

Interestingly, the nearby Bowie Elementary, Mohawk Elementary, and Spring Creek Elementary consistently outperform Northwood Hills Elementary on academic measures, with significantly higher proficiency rates on STAAR tests. Despite Northwood Hills Elementary's relatively high per-student spending and low student-to-teacher ratio, the school faces challenges in maintaining consistent academic progress and addressing the diverse needs of its student population.
