Summary

Louise Cabaniss Academy is a PK-4 elementary school in Grand Prairie, TX, serving 445 students as part of the highly-rated Mansfield Independent School District (Isd), which ranks in the 78th percentile statewide.

This school truly shines in two specific areas. It ranks in the 94th percentile statewide for its effectiveness with English Language Learners and in the 97th percentile for its Gifted & Talented students—both earning 5-star ratings. This is a remarkable turnaround for the GT program, which was in the 38th percentile just two years ago. The school also consistently performs well with African American students, ranking in the 84th-88th percentile over the last three years. With a favorable student-teacher ratio of 12.8:1, Cabaniss achieves these results while spending less per student ($8,972) than many nearby lower-performing schools, such as Imogene Gideon Elementary ($11,660) and Janet Brockett Elementary ($10,140). While Cabaniss is a solid 4-star school, its closest neighbor, Anna May Daulton Elementary, is a 5-star school ranking in the 92nd percentile. However, Cabaniss significantly outperforms other nearby Mansfield ISD schools like Gideon (18th percentile) and Brockett (23rd percentile), making it a strong, reliable choice within the district.

One area of concern is the school's performance with Special Education students, which improved from the 8th percentile to the 38th percentile but remains its weakest subgroup. Additionally, recent test scores show a "4th grade slump," with reading proficiency dropping from 78.57% to 50.65% in the latest year, while 3rd grade held steady. For families comparing options, Cabaniss offers a consistently high-performing environment, especially for ELL and GT students, and benefits from being in a top-tier district. A family choosing between Cabaniss and a nearby Arlington Independent School District (Isd) school like Beckham Elementary would likely find Cabaniss to be the more reliable option.

Open Quote Very impressed w/Mansfield ISD & how they have schools divided from elem., intermediate, middle & high school. I've noticed all of the schools are new, have great websites and seem to take pride in themselves. After researching I decided that Louise Cabaniss Elementary seemed the most appealing to me since it was in close proximity to 360 & 20. I called over the phone & spoke with Tamara Moore, she was soooo nice! She told me I could come in anytime I wanted & tour the school. The day I visited the school it was very nice, clean & new. I was greeted nicely by the receptionist & Tamara who is the clerk there. I had my niece & grandmother with me & she gave us a great tour of the school. I met some of the Teachers, the Librarian, the Counselor, the Assistant Principal & saw lots of the kids. Everyone was genuinely friendly & I loved the diversity of kids I saw. The school was awesome & we ended up staying there for at least 2 hours talking to the staff. I am really excited about this school!!! I am ready to move here this summer & be done with Grapevine Colleyville ISD which is a nightmare between the rude staff, losing children & corporal punishment policies. Close Quote
