Summary

J L Boren Elementary is a PK-4 school in Mansfield, TX, serving 611 students within the highly-rated Mansfield Independent School District (Isd), and it consistently ranks among the top 10-15% of Texas elementary schools, with a current statewide ranking in the 88th percentile.

This school stands out for its exceptional support of all students, particularly those from low-income backgrounds and English Language Learners (ELL). For low socio-economic status students, J L Boren ranks in the 97th percentile statewide, and for ELL students, it achieves a remarkable 99th percentile ranking—a huge leap from just two years prior. Academically, the school outperforms both the district and state averages by wide margins; for example, 73% of 3rd graders are proficient in math, compared to 51% in the district and 44% statewide. However, there was a slight dip in 4th grade reading and math scores in the most recent year, which is worth monitoring. Additionally, while the school excels with most groups, its Gifted and Talented (GT) program ranks only in the 51st percentile, suggesting that enrichment for the highest-achieving students may need attention.

Compared to nearby schools within the district, J L Boren is a high-performing standout. Neighbors like Janet Brockett Elementary, Erma Nash Elementary, Alice Ponder Elementary, and D P Morris Elementary all rank in the bottom half of Texas schools. The closest comparable schools in terms of performance are Willie Brown Academy (87th percentile) and Roberta Tipps Academy (79th percentile), but Boren still outperforms them. Just a mile away, the charter school Ume Mansfield Elementary (92nd percentile) offers a high-performing alternative, especially excelling in 4th grade math (96% proficient vs. Boren's 62%).

Open Quote This is a fabulous school. All 3 of my children have gone through this school. The principal makes a point to know each child by name. The teachers work with the parents and principals to make sure that it is a great place to learn. It is a public school with a private school education!!! Close Quote
