Summary

D P Morris Elementary in Arlington, TX, serves 545 students in grades K-4 as part of the highly-rated Mansfield Independent School District (Isd), but has experienced a significant and sustained decline in performance over the past decade, dropping from a 74th percentile ranking to the 46th percentile.

This school faces notable challenges in core academics, consistently scoring below the district average in both Reading and Math for 3rd and 4th grades. For instance, only 35.29% of 3rd graders were proficient in Math recently, compared to the district average of 50.62%. The school has a high rate of economic disadvantage (73.94% of students receiving free/reduced lunch), similar to nearby Kenneth Davis Elementary (73.43%), but is not achieving the same level of success for these students as some peers like Pearcy Stem Academy in Arlington Independent School District (Isd), which ranks in the 76th percentile overall with a similar economic disadvantage rate. The school also struggles significantly with its Special Education students, who rank in the bottom 9% of the state.

On a positive note, the most recent data shows a slight uptick in overall rank and notable improvements for Hispanic Students and English Language Learners, suggesting a potential turnaround. The school's Spanish-language STAAR test scores were exceptionally high in one year, though they dropped dramatically the next, indicating volatility. Interestingly, the school shows a strong performance for African American Students (62nd percentile) but a very weak performance for White Students (3rd percentile). Spending is not the issue, as the school's $9,573 per student is in the middle of the pack for nearby schools, with some lower-performing schools spending more.

Open Quote Lack of communication skills among teacher and administrative staff. Have called to let teacher know about a change in way will pick up child and somehow, message was never recieved, more than one occasion. Also, had an administrative staff reply rudely when called once. Also, asked for tutoring help for my son and was told very frankly that it was not offered. Will be so happy when my second child is finished with this school. Close Quote
