Summary

Willie E Williams Elementary in Magnolia, TX, serves 807 students from Pre-K through 4th grade within the highly-rated Magnolia Independent School District (Isd), though the school itself currently holds a 3-star rating and has seen a notable decline in performance over the last few years.

This school has a unique story: it dramatically improved from a 1-star rating to a peak 4-star rating in 2021-2022, but has since dropped back to the 61st percentile. This recent decline is a key concern, especially when compared to nearby schools like Audubon Elementary (1.8 miles away) which debuted at the 82nd percentile, or Nichols Sawmill Elementary (3.4 miles away) which has remained consistently in the 74th-82nd percentile range. A major factor is that Willie E. Williams serves a student population with a high rate of economic disadvantage—over 70% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch—which is significantly higher than most other Magnolia ISD elementary schools. This context is crucial for understanding the school's challenges, as it faces a more difficult educational environment than its higher-performing peers like Bear Branch Elementary.

Despite the overall decline, there are bright spots. The school’s bilingual program appears to be a hidden strength: in 2024-2025, 4th graders taking the STAAR Reading test in Spanish achieved a 66.67% proficiency rate, far exceeding the state average for the Spanish version. Additionally, the school has historically shown it can be exceptionally effective with its most vulnerable students, as "At Risk" students ranked in the top 8% statewide during the school's peak year. For parents, this suggests that while the school faces significant hurdles, it has proven capacity for excellence and may offer strong support for specific student groups, particularly within its bilingual and at-risk programs.
