Summary

D H Brent Elementary is a PK-5 public school in the Little Elm Independent School District (Isd) serving 541 students in Little Elm, TX, but it currently ranks in the 32nd percentile statewide—a significant drop from its 74th percentile peak in 2016. This recent decline is especially stark when compared to nearby schools in the Frisco Independent School District (Isd), which are among the highest-performing in Texas. For example, Nichols Elementary (99th percentile), Sparks Elementary (98th percentile), and Fisher Elementary (94th percentile) all outperform D H Brent by over 60 percentile points. Test scores reflect this gap: in 5th grade math, only 38.67% of D H Brent students were proficient, compared to 87.8% at Nichols Elementary.

One of the most interesting findings is that D H Brent spends more per student ($10,622) than these high-performing Frisco ISD schools (e.g., Nichols at $7,643), yet achieves significantly worse results. This suggests the challenge isn't a lack of funding, but how resources are used. The school does show a notable strength in its Spanish-language STAAR Reading program, where 4th graders scored 72.73% proficient in 2025-2026—far exceeding the district (48.48%) and state (37.14%) averages. However, the school struggles to support its most vulnerable students, ranking in the bottom 14% for low socioeconomic status students and the bottom 11% for special education students.

For parents, the key takeaway is that D H Brent Elementary is in a period of significant decline, especially compared to its own past performance and the excellent results of nearby Frisco ISD schools. While the bilingual program is a bright spot, the overall academic outcomes are low, and the school is not effectively serving a large portion of its student body. Families considering this school should investigate recent changes in leadership or curriculum and weigh the stark contrast with neighboring schools like Purefoy Elementary or Boals Elementary, which consistently rank in the top 10% statewide.

Open Quote We have been very pleased with this school and the high standards the teachers have held for both of my children. We have been extremely pleased with communication from teachers and staff. Close Quote

Open Quote There are too many children enrolled in each class. Every year each my daughter's teachers seem to be overwhelmed and can control their class nor teach to satisfactory. My daughter is falling behind because of the poor teaching. They have hired a new principle and counselor this year who is below satisfactory. We have issues and neither her teacher, principle or counselor seem to take action or be willing to go one step above to solve any issues. None of the faculty seem to be as involved with the children as they should be. My daughter will be moved out of this school district next year and never return. Close Quote
