Summary

McRoberts Elementary is a PK-5 school in the Katy Independent School District (Isd), serving 864 students in the Katy, TX area. Historically a strong performer with consistent 4-star ratings, the school has recently seen a decline to a 3-star rating, dropping from the 78th percentile in 2022-2023 to the 52nd percentile in 2025-2026. This sustained downward trend is more concerning than a single bad year, especially when compared to nearby Ursula Stephens Elementary, which serves a similar demographic but has surged to the 83rd percentile over the same period.

Despite the overall dip, McRoberts has notable strengths. The school's bilingual program is a hidden gem, with Spanish-language STAAR scores often double or triple the state average—for example, 5th grade Spanish reading scored 66.67% proficient versus the state's 32.91%. The school also excels with its Gifted and Talented students, ranking in the 85th percentile, and historically performed exceptionally well with low socio-economic status students, ranking in the 94th percentile in 2022-2023. However, a major area of concern is Special Education, where the school's ranking plummeted from the 82nd percentile to the 29th percentile, earning a 1-star rating.

Academically, McRoberts shows a "tale of two subjects." Reading is a relative strength, outperforming nearby Jack & Sharon Rhoads Elementary in 5th grade (62.7% vs. 57.58%). However, math is a critical weakness, with 5th grade math scores at just 36.57%—25 points below the district average. This suggests a systemic issue in upper elementary math instruction. The school's recent challenges appear school-specific rather than demographic, as Ursula Stephens Elementary has thrived with a similar student population, pointing to possible factors like leadership changes or curriculum shifts at McRoberts.

Open Quote The teachers and administrators are horrible. They don't care about this kids. Most are just there to collect a pay check. It feels like an inner-city school. Close Quote

Open Quote McRobert's is poorly led and unethical. They have done little to nothing to stop bullying in the school but have no problem harassing parents who keep their sick children home from school, even threatening with legal action and insisting that kids go to school sick! One administrator admitted over the phone that they need the kids in the classroom at least until 10 am or so when attendance is taken so that they can get their funding. After that, the sick child can go to the nurse's office, get checked out, and go home. This obvious disregard for children's health and emphasis on getting money at any cost makes McRoberts a school to avoid. Close Quote
