Summary

Loraine T Golbow Elementary is a PK-5 school in Katy, TX, serving 640 students within the highly-regarded Katy Independent School District (Isd), where nearly 70% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Golbow is a stable, average-performing school that has held a 3-star rating for most of the last decade, though its current ranking (57th percentile) is a slight decline from its pre-pandemic peak. It is a solid mid-tier option in a diverse neighborhood, outperforming nearby Jack & Sharon Rhoads Elementary (28th percentile) and Sundown Elementary (36th percentile), but falling behind Ursula Stephens Elementary (83rd percentile) and Morton Ranch Elementary (67th percentile). The school's greatest strength is its ability to serve its African American students, who ranked in the 81st percentile statewide in 2023-2024. However, the school faces significant challenges in Mathematics, with scores consistently below the district average across all grades—for example, 5th-grade math proficiency was 39.45% compared to the district's 61.34%. A critical weakness is 5th Grade Science, where only 16.33% of students were proficient, less than half the state average and a third of the district average.

Golbow also struggles with its English Language Learner (ELL) population, who ranked in the 27th percentile statewide. Interestingly, the school spends less per student ($10,650) than many neighbors like Ursula Stephens ($13,225) and McRoberts Elementary ($13,095), yet achieves a higher ranking than some higher-spending schools. To avoid falling further behind improving neighbors, Golbow must address its declining overall trend and its struggles with ELL students.

Open Quote It's my opinion that this school desperately needs a new administration staff. The countless reports I have seen online about this principal have gone unnoticed by this district, and now I have had no choice but to withdrawal my child from this school.

To this day, there have been no changes made and I will no longer allow my child to be in this environment.

All parents moving into the neighborhood, please investigate and check out the background online of who this principal and her assistant principal really are.

Remember, our children come first! Close Quote
