Summary

Mayde Creek Elementary in Houston, TX, serves 816 students in grades PK-5 and is part of the highly-rated Katy Independent School District (Isd). While the district ranks in the 82nd percentile statewide, Mayde Creek Elementary currently ranks in the 11th percentile, a significant drop from its historical performance. Over 76% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and the school's academic outcomes, particularly in math, have declined sharply in recent years.

Math scores at Mayde Creek are critically low compared to nearby schools. For example, in 3rd grade math, only 20.86% of students are proficient, which is 34 points below the district average and 23 points below the state average. Nearby Ursula Stephens Elementary achieves 77.27% proficiency in the same grade and subject. This pattern continues across all grade levels, with 4th and 5th grade math proficiency rates hovering around 25-27%, far below the district averages of 60-61%. The school's overall rank has fallen from the 43rd percentile in 2023-2024 to the 11th percentile in 2025-2026, indicating a rapid decline.

There is a glimmer of hope in 5th grade reading, where 54.78% of students are proficient, approaching the state average of 58.47%. However, the most alarming trend is the drop in performance for students from low socio-economic backgrounds, who went from the 54th percentile in 2023-2024 to the 9th percentile in 2025-2026. This suggests that support systems for the school's most vulnerable students have become less effective. While the school's spending per student ($11,614) and student-teacher ratio (12.8:1) are competitive, the academic outcomes are not keeping pace with the rest of the district.

Open Quote I have three children in this school and we ALL Love it. Teachers, staff are great. Very welcoming school, we have had no problems and my children have been there two years going on their third. Highly recommend this school, teachers challenge students and really pay attention to your child. They encourage parent involvement a lot which is really important to us. It might be an older school but the whole staff makes this school so wonderful. Close Quote
