Summary

Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary is a public elementary school in Dallas, Texas, serving 285 students in grades PK-5. It is part of the Dallas Independent School District (ISD), which is ranked 493 out of 961 districts in the state.

Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary has struggled academically in recent years, with a 1-star rating for the past four school years. The school has consistently had a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 92.12% to 93.85% over the past three school years. This is significantly higher than the district average of around 90%, indicating a high concentration of economically disadvantaged students. Proficiency rates on STAAR tests are well below the district and state averages across all grade levels and subjects, particularly in mathematics.

Nearby schools in the Dallas ISD, such as Mount Auburn Steam Academy and Solar Preparatory School for Girls at Bonham, generally outperform Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary on academic measures. The school's low performance for specific student subgroups, such as English Language Learners and Special Education students, suggests a need for more targeted interventions and support to address their unique needs. Ensuring the school has strong, stable leadership and access to sufficient resources and support could be crucial in driving sustained improvements.

Open Quote This school is very disorganized. First day of school was a horrible experience. No visible information for grade and class numbers. Everyone herded into cafeteria like cattle. Staff rude, no empathy for children. I mean a basic simple sign with teachers name and room number would have decreased chaos! Just because this is a low income school doesn't mean you treat parents and children like cattle, talk down to them. I can see why half the staff from last year left! I am now concerned about my children's level of education they will be receiving. Close Quote
