Summary

Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary in Copperas Cove, TX, is a K-5 school serving 473 students within the Copperas Cove Independent School District (Isd), and it has achieved a remarkable turnaround from a 1-star rating a decade ago to a stable 3-star school today. The school’s most impressive strength is its exceptional performance with students from low socio-economic backgrounds, ranking in the 90th percentile statewide for this group—a 5-star achievement—despite over 70% of its students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. This success extends to other vulnerable populations, with Special Education students ranking in the 85th percentile and English Language Learners jumping to the 90th percentile in recent years, showing targeted and effective support.

However, the school shows a clear pattern of excelling in Reading while struggling with early-grade Mathematics. For example, 5th-grade Reading proficiency reached 70.11% in 2025-2026, well above the state average of 58.47%, but 3rd-grade Math proficiency lagged at 32.94% compared to the state’s 44.33%. When compared to nearby schools, Fairview/Miss Jewell stands out for its efficiency and effectiveness. Martin Walker Elementary (1.25 miles away) is the academic leader in the area with a 4-star rating, but it serves a much lower percentage of low-income students (55.49% vs. 70.82%). Meanwhile, Hettie Halstead Elementary (1.12 miles away) has been declining to the 38th percentile, while Fairview/Miss Jewell outperforms it despite having a higher poverty rate, highlighting the school’s successful strategies.

The school also demonstrates resource efficiency, spending $9,745 per student—less than nearby schools like Hettie Halstead ($10,477) and Martin Walker ($9,770)—yet achieving better results than its neighbor. A notable area for future growth is addressing the underperformance in early-grade math and ensuring that all student groups benefit equally from the school’s strengths. Overall, Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary is a story of successful transformation, consistently delivering strong outcomes for a high-poverty student body and proving that effective education can overcome significant challenges.

Open Quote First time for my toddlers to be in school and I have to say, there is no patience for my 3 yr old. The principal told me because he is a transfer student, she can drop him at anytime if he can't follow directions. It has only been 2 weeks and already my child is being threatened for dismissal. I attend school 4 out of the 5 days and don't see any behavior that is not correctable. At 3 he does not listen well all the time . But what 3 yr old does! The teacher seems to care alot about the kids but REALLY could use some reliable help in her classroom. I can see her being fustrated trying to handle 22 toddlers alone. They offer alot of ways for the parent to interact with the kids and be apart of the team. However, I feel as if I am and "outsider" and not a partner in my kids education. I am trying to be there but the principal won't let me volunteer in my kids room. I have been offered "observation only" time. Why sign up as a volunteer if you can not help out? I am disappointed as this school got great ratings and was the reason I chose it. Having major regrets. Close Quote
