Summary

Cottonwood Creek Elementary is a K-5 school in Coppell, TX, serving 408 students as part of the top-ranked Coppell Independent School District (Isd), which is in the top 2% of all Texas districts.

Cottonwood Creek consistently performs well above the state average, with a low student-to-teacher ratio of 13.6:1 and a very low percentage of students from low socio-economic backgrounds (11% free/reduced lunch). However, it is not the top performer within its own high-achieving district. Nearby district peers like Mockingbird Elementary, Wilson Elementary, and Pinkerton Elementary rank higher in the state. A key differentiator is a persistent gap in mathematics proficiency; Cottonwood Creek's math scores have been consistently below the district average across all tested grades for several years. For example, in 4th grade math, the school scored 50% proficient compared to the district's 70%. This contrasts sharply with nearby schools in the Lewisville Independent School District (Isd), such as Rockbrook Elementary, Parkway Elementary, and Southridge Elementary, which rank in the bottom 25% of the state and have drastically lower test scores.

An interesting finding is that the school is ranked in the top 8% of the state for serving its Gifted and Talented students but in the bottom 2% for serving its Low Socio-Economic Status students, suggesting its overall performance is heavily driven by higher-income students. Additionally, the school has experienced a significant decline in serving several student subgroups over the last two years, including Hispanic, White, English Language Learner, and Special Education students. The school's overall state ranking also shows a historical pattern of peaks and valleys, indicating sensitivity to changes in cohort strength or staffing. For a comparison, the nearby Coppell Classical Academy charter school, while competitive, generally provides a less consistently high-performing environment than Cottonwood Creek.

Open Quote We moved here to Coppell after having been living abroad for 8 years. We absolutely love the diverse nationalities represented in this community. We have a child with a learning disability and this school and their staff have been above and beyond awesome in regards to helping him with his challenges. The school district does not allow for anyone to slip through their system and they work hard to help the students who need it. Our 2nd child is an average student and the school seems to fit him nicely as well. The classes are small to average and the teachers go above and beyond expectations! We start our third child this fall and look forward to another amazing year here! Close Quote
