Summary

Clear Creek High School in League City, TX, is a large public high school serving 2,469 students in grades 9-12 as part of the highly-rated Clear Creek Independent School District (Isd). While the district itself ranks in the top 15% of Texas, Clear Creek is the lowest-ranked among its four comprehensive high schools, earning a consistent 3-star rating from Schooldigger over the past six years after a gradual decline from its former 4-star status.

Academically, Clear Creek trails its district peers in most subjects. For example, in Algebra I, only 51.9% of students are proficient, compared to 70.5% at Clear Springs High School and 73.6% at Clear Lake High School. Similarly, English I proficiency is 60.3% at Clear Creek versus 77.1% at Clear Springs. The school also struggles with specific student groups, ranking in the 28th percentile for English Language Learners and the 41st percentile for low-socioeconomic status students. However, there is a bright spot: U.S. History proficiency is a relative strength at 75%, competitive with district peers and above the state average of 70.2%. Nearby Friendswood High School (91st percentile) dramatically outperforms Clear Creek in every metric, with an English I proficiency rate over 22 percentage points higher.

Despite these academic challenges, Clear Creek maintains an exceptionally high graduation rate of 96.8% to 97.6% over the last five years, with a dropout rate of just 0.1%. This suggests the school is highly effective at keeping students on track to earn a diploma, even if state test scores lag behind peers. For parents, this creates a nuanced picture: Clear Creek offers a stable environment with strong graduation outcomes, but families seeking top-tier academic performance may want to explore options like Clear Springs or Clear Lake within the same district, or Friendswood in the neighboring district.

Open Quote As a parent, I am very disappointed with the teacher quality at this school. I would estimate that 75% of the teachers spend class time talking about topics unrelated to the subject matter, are not capable of explaining the topics in depth, or unfairly favor certain student demographics over others. My son attended elementary and intermediate school in the same school district and the teachers there were much better than the teachers at this high school. Close Quote

Open Quote This school looks good on paper and from the outside. The teacher turnover rate is very high. Teachers have no support from the administration which directly affects the classroom. The level of education is very poor. Academics are sacrificed to athletics. TAKS means everything; when scores decrease, teachers are targeted and used a scapegoats. Close Quote
