Summary

Science Hall Elementary is a PK-5 school in Kyle, TX, serving 667 students as part of the Hays Consolidated Independent School District. The school has consistently ranked in the 21st percentile (1-star) for the 2025-2026 school year, a trend that has persisted for most of the past decade. With 62.37% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, Science Hall serves a high-needs population, and its academic performance is notably lower than many nearby schools.

The most significant academic challenge is mathematics, where proficiency rates across all tested grades (3rd-5th) are roughly 20 percentage points below district and state averages. For example, 4th Grade Math proficiency is just 31.31%, compared to the district average of 51.1%. Science is also a critical weakness, with only 6.33% of 5th graders proficient in the 2024-2025 school year. However, there are bright spots: the school excels with its Gifted and Talented students, ranking in the 94th percentile (5-star), and shows relative strength in Spanish-language assessments, where 4th Grade Math proficiency reached 57.14% in 2024-2025, far exceeding district and state averages. In contrast, nearby Jim Cullen Elementary (87th percentile) has proficiency rates nearly double or triple those of Science Hall, highlighting a stark contrast in outcomes.

Despite high per-student spending of $11,039—higher than nearby schools like Laura B. Negley Elementary ($9,471) and Tom Green Elementary ($9,504)—the school struggles to translate resources into results. The performance of English Language Learners has collapsed, dropping from the 30th percentile in 2023-2024 to the 4th percentile (0-star) in 2025-2026. For parents, Science Hall offers a strong Gifted and Talented program and effective Spanish-language instruction, but families should be aware of the significant challenges in math and science, as well as the overall low academic rankings compared to other schools in the area.

Open Quote Horrible experience with this school. After 3 years of no issues my children were being harassed by the attendance clerk at SHES. We moved to Austin and had just moved to Austin and decided to keep our children enrolled at SHES to finish at least the semester since we are still paying taxes on our home in the Hays district. The attendance lady has been harassing my children since my daughter told her we moved as to where she lives which is just creepy and wrong. We advised the principal of the situation and he did nothing. Do not enroll your children here. Close Quote
