Summary

East End Preparatory School is a large K-8 school in East Nashville serving 837 students, offering a rare kindergarten-through-8th-grade option in a neighborhood where most nearby schools, like Lockeland Elementary School, are PK-5 elementary campuses. It is part of Metro Nashville Public Schools, a district ranked in the 11th percentile statewide, and only Nashville Classical East School also serves students through 8th grade in the immediate area.

Academically, East End Prep outperforms its district but trails the state average. In 2025-26, math proficiency was 40.1% at the school versus 32.4% for the district and 43.0% statewide; ELA was 33.3% versus 31.8% district and 40.6% state. The school's most distinctive strength is its record with historically underserved students—it has recently ranked in the 82nd–92nd percentile statewide for outcomes among Hispanic, African American, and low-income students, an unusual achievement for a school with a mid-level overall rank. Special education results also fell sharply to the 9th percentile statewide. The overall state ranking has been volatile, sitting at the 37th percentile for 2025-26, and the school sits in a very uneven local landscape: Lockeland Elementary ranks #2 in the state, while Hattie Cotton Elementary and Tom Joy Elementary rank in the bottom 10th percentile. For families weighing options, East End Prep is a mid-performing school with a strong equity profile and meaningful advanced math opportunities, but upper-grade literacy deserves a close look.
