Summary

South Lincoln School is a PK–8 school in Fayetteville, TN, serving 656 students as part of Lincoln County Schools, a district rated above average statewide. The school has built strong momentum in recent years, climbing from the 65th percentile in 2023–2024 to the 78th percentile in 2025–2026, earning a 4-star rating and ranking 226th out of 1,019 Tennessee schools. That said, the school has not yet fully returned to its earlier peak of the 84th percentile, where it sat during the 2017–2019 school years.

South Lincoln currently outperforms both its district and the state in every core subject — math, English language arts, science, and social studies. One of the most impressive turnarounds is in special education: after ranking near the bottom of the state (2nd percentile) in 2022–2023, the school now ranks in the 85th percentile for that same group of students. The school also stands out for efficiency. At $10,446 per student, it spends less than every nearby school, including Highland Rim School ($11,083), Flintville School ($12,564), and Blanche School ($12,351), yet it outperforms most of them. Among nearby schools, only Blanche School and Unity School rank higher, both at the 80th percentile compared to South Lincoln's 78th.

There are a few areas worth watching. Chronic absenteeism rose to 19.2% in 2024–2025, above both the district (17.0%) and state (18.3%) averages — a notable shift after years of being at or below the district rate. Reading scores also dip sharply in middle school: only 27% of 6th graders and 29.1% of 8th graders were proficient in ELA, well below state averages, even though the school excels in early elementary reading and in middle-school math. And while most student groups perform above state averages, there is still room to push every subgroup into the top quartile. If South Lincoln can improve attendance and strengthen middle-grade literacy, it has a realistic path back to the top-20% tier it occupied just a few years ago.
