Summary

LaFollette Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 493 students in grades PK-6 in La Follette, Tennessee. The school is part of the Campbell County School District, which is ranked 130 out of 139 districts in the state and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger. Unfortunately, LaFollette Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Tennessee elementary schools over the past decade, with a ranking between 632-918 out of around 1,000 schools.

Some key factors that differentiate LaFollette Elementary include its high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 18.9% to 31.1% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the state average. The school's academic performance, as measured by TNReady test scores, is also well below state and district averages across all subjects and grade levels. For example, in 2024-2025, only 28.6% of students were proficient or better in math, compared to 42.2% statewide. The school's performance is particularly low in 3rd grade math (17.8% proficient) and 3rd grade ELA (21.9% proficient). Additionally, LaFollette Elementary struggles to serve its subgroups effectively, ranking in the bottom 10-20% of Tennessee elementary schools for its performance with male students, white students, and special education students.

When comparing LaFollette Elementary to nearby schools, the pattern of low performance seems to be a systemic issue within the Campbell County School District, as other schools like Jellico Elementary, Elk Valley Elementary, and Wynn Habersham Elementary also struggle academically. However, the nearby Jacksboro Elementary in the same district performs significantly better, ranking in the top 40% of Tennessee elementary schools. When compared to schools in the neighboring Anderson County district, the difference in performance is even more stark, with schools like Norris Elementary and Andersonville Elementary significantly outperforming LaFollette Elementary across all metrics.

Open Quote Staff at this school only care about pushing kids through with failing scores to recieve more funding. Teachers in all of Campbell County shouldn't be qualified to train dogs, let alone teach children. How are kids supposed to know the difference between your/you're if the teachers don't know themselves? I also didn't sign my child up for religious education, yet that's most of what my child learned. Close Quote

Open Quote We are a former military family with 4 grown sons and 2 elem age daughters. Needless to say we've dealt with a lot of schools during our 20 years of moving and Lafollette Elem is BY FAR the WORST school. Parent communication is horrid. Pto is constantly collecting money and there has been no field trips or anything. They had 2 dances planned that u had to pay to attend...of course. They cancelled 1 and the other one was.... unexplainable. At lunch the kids have to empty their tray and put there heads down when their done, not just the misbehaving kids....EVERY KID EVERY day and there's NO talking at lunch not even indoor voice. P.E. consist of watching movies or sometimes going to the playground. During "music" they draw or study or do homework. There is no incentive to do good be if a few students are bad the whole class gets punished. There is no phone call if school gets cancelled or no communication about ANYTHING! The secretary at the front desk is friendly but the school nurse rolled her eyes when my child came to see her. She makes my child afraid to say anything if she's sick. It's all work and nothing fun or stimulating for the kids. Nothing to be involved in.....just work. They get 1 20 min recess a day. There are 100 more reasons why lafollette elm is the worst school in the state. I could go on and on. It's been a horrible experience for my children and I'm glad it's almost over. Plz parents find a way if u can to drive ur child to another school. I would homeschool b4 I'd send mine back there next year. Close Quote
