Summary

Community High School is a relatively small public high school in Unionville, TN, serving 545 students in grades 9–12 as part of Bedford County Schools. Historically a mid-pack performer, the school saw a sharp recent decline: its statewide ranking dropped from the 49th percentile in 2024–25 to the 28th percentile in 2025–26, earning a 1-star rating.

Test scores fell across most subjects this past year. Algebra I proficiency dropped from 20.9% to 13.4%, and US History fell dramatically from 34.6% to 14.9% — less than half the state average. English I, English II, and Algebra II also declined, though Biology I and Geometry improved slightly. Community now trails state averages in nearly every tested subject. The gap is especially visible when compared with nearby schools. Cascade High School, just 12.7 miles away and in the same district, ranks 49th statewide and posts proficiency rates roughly double or triple Community's in most subjects. Forrest School, only 6.9 miles away in Marshall County, similarly outperforms Community in every subject, including US History (60.5% vs. 14.9%). Even Shelbyville Central High School, the other Bedford County school ranked slightly lower overall, beats Community substantially in US History.

There are encouraging signs to build on. Chronic absenteeism improved dramatically, falling from 26.8% in 2021–22 to 16.5% in 2024–25 — now better than both the district and state averages. The graduation rate remains solid at 91.4%, above the statewide rate. And 10th-grade Algebra II students shine, with an 86.7% proficiency rate that outpaces the district and state. Community also spends more per student ($12,442) than most nearby schools. While the 2025–26 academic decline is concerning, the school's improved attendance, strong graduation rate, and standout performance among accelerated math students provide a foundation for reversing the trend.
