Bedford County Schools in Tennessee serves about 8,440 students across 14 schools—8 elementary, 3 middle, and 3 high schools—and is ranked 88th out of 141 Tennessee districts with a 2-star rating, placing it at the 38th percentile statewide. The district shows a stark divide in student outcomes, with a few schools performing at elite levels while others struggle significantly. Overall district proficiency averages are below state averages in math (39.2% vs. 43.0%), ELA (35.0% vs. 40.6%), science (38.7% vs. 46.9%), and social studies (38.7% vs. 51.4%).

The clear standout is Thomas Magnet School, ranked 5th in Tennessee with 5 stars and proficiency rates above 84% in every subject—far outpacing district and state averages. The Cascade Elementary School, Cascade Middle School, and Cascade High School feeder pattern is also excellent, with each school ranking in the 82nd–88th percentile and Cascade High achieving a 96.6% graduation rate, the district's best. On the other end, Learning Way Elementary School is the district's only 0-star school (8th percentile), and Harris Middle School (11th percentile) and Shelbyville Central High School (23rd percentile) also rank very low. Shelbyville Central has a 7.1% dropout rate and 25.4% chronic absenteeism, while Cascade High shows only 11.4% absenteeism and 2.8% dropouts.

Higher spending does not drive better outcomes—Eakin Elementary School spends $14,844 per student yet ranks in the 13th percentile, while Thomas Magnet spends $11,423 and is top-ranked. Districtwide, achievement drops sharply in middle school: 3rd-grade math proficiency is 44.3% but falls to 31.2% by 8th grade, with ELA dropping from 46.3% to 22.6%. Chronic absenteeism generally tracks lower performance, but Eakin and East Side Elementary School have low absenteeism yet still score below average. On a positive note, Liberty Elementary School, East Side, and Cascade High are improving, while Community High School has declined from the 48th to 28th percentile despite a solid 91.4% graduation rate.
