Summary

Rockvale High School is a large public high school in Rockvale, Tennessee, serving 2,126 students in grades 9–12 as part of Rutherford County Schools. The school is currently ranked 42nd out of 400 Tennessee high schools for the 2025–2026 school year, placing it in the 90th percentile with a 4-star rating. Among nearby traditional high schools, only Blackman High School ranks higher (34th in the state); Rockvale sits ahead of Siegel High School, Stewarts Creek High School, Riverdale High School, Oakland High School, and Smyrna High School.

Rockvale's clearest academic strength is English. It posted the highest English I (58.6% proficient) and English II (71.7% proficient) scores among nearby traditional high schools, with English II more than 13 points above the state average. The school also beats district and state proficiency averages in most other subjects, including Biology, U.S. History, and Geometry. Students finish strong too: the graduation rate is 97.2% and the dropout rate is just 1.7%, both far better than state averages. The school also performs well across student subgroups, earning strong statewide rankings for low-income students, English learners, and both male and female students.

Two things are worth watching closely. Chronic absenteeism spiked to 17.3% in 2024–2025, well above the district rate of 11.3% and a sharp jump from the previous year's 5.2%. And per-student spending of $11,373 is mid-range compared to nearby schools — Oakland and Siegel spend more, while Blackman and Stewarts Creek spend less. Still, with strong academics, a 97.2% graduation rate, and efficient use of resources, Rockvale is clearly one of the top traditional high schools in Rutherford County.
