Summary:

Springfield, Tennessee is served by 11 schools within the Robertson County Schools district, spanning kindergarten through adult education with a mix of elementary, middle, high, and alternative schools. The district ranks in the 28th percentile of Tennessee districts overall, but Springfield schools vary enormously within that average. Innovation Academy of Robertson County is the clear standout, ranking in the 86th percentile of Tennessee high schools with 4 stars, chronic absenteeism of just 8.1%, and test proficiency dramatically above state averages (84.6% in US History versus 42.4% statewide). Coopertown Elementary School is the strongest traditional elementary, ranking in the 61st percentile with math proficiency of 49.3% and ELA proficiency of 50%, both above state levels.

There is a wide gulf between the city's top and bottom schools. Coopertown Middle School ranks in the bottom 12% of Tennessee middle schools, while Krisle Elementary School sits in the bottom 14% of elementary schools. Encouragingly, momentum is upward in several places: Crestview Elementary School rose from the 9th percentile in 2023-2024 to the 34th percentile in 2025-2026, nearly doubling its math proficiency, and Springfield High School climbed from the 23rd to the 40th percentile. Cheatham Park Elementary School stands out for attendance, with 9.7% chronic absenteeism versus the district's 15.5%, though its test scores remain close to district averages.

Two patterns are especially notable. First, spending per student does not predict performance: Robertson County Phoenix Academy spends $28,030 per student yet has among the lowest proficiency rates, while Robertson County Virtual School spends just $4,172 per student and achieves a 95.8% graduation rate. Second, chronic absenteeism tracks closely with outcomes, from Innovation Academy's 8.1% to Phoenix Academy's 41.2%. Westside Elementary School serves only grades K-2, so it has no test data for comparison. For parents, Springfield offers a few genuinely excellent options, several schools on clear upward trajectories, and a handful requiring significant support.
