Summary

Clover Middle serves 969 students in grades 6-8 in Clover, South Carolina, as part of the highly regarded York 02 school district, which ranks 2nd out of 75 districts statewide. The school has maintained a solid 4-star rating for the past decade, consistently ranking in the 77th-84th percentile across South Carolina.

One of the most notable strengths at Clover Middle is its exceptional Algebra 1 End-of-Course exam performance, with nearly 98% of students scoring proficient in 2024-2025—well above both the district average (87%) and state average (74%). The school also shows strong English Language Arts growth, with 8th grade proficiency reaching 68.7%, nearly matching the district average. However, mathematics achievement in grades 6-8 consistently trails the district average by 6-10 percentage points, suggesting a gap in core math instruction that families may want to explore. The school also demonstrates a genuine strength in supporting diverse learners, with particularly strong outcomes for African American students (91st-92nd percentile statewide) and respectable performance for students from low-income backgrounds.

The most pressing concern for parents to understand is chronic absenteeism. At 22.5%, Clover Middle's rate is more than double that of nearby Oakridge Middle (10.1%), even though both schools serve the same district and are only 8 miles apart. Oakridge consistently outperforms Clover in nearly every subject and ranks 28th statewide compared to Clover's 76th place. Clover Middle does invest more per student ($13,566) than Oakridge ($12,964) and maintains a favorable 13.8:1 student-teacher ratio, yet outcomes lag behind. Families considering Clover Middle should be aware that while the school excels in advanced math and shows strong literacy growth, addressing attendance and closing the math achievement gap will be critical priorities for the school moving forward.
