The Lexington 01 school district in South Carolina serves approximately 27,000 students across 31 schools—18 elementary, 8 middle, and 5 high schools—and holds a 4-star rating, ranking in the 81st percentile statewide.

Families will find a stark performance divide between the northern and central parts of the district and the southern and western areas. The top-tier schools are clustered around Lake Murray and the town center: Lake Murray Elementary leads the district with a 96th percentile ranking and 93.3% 3rd-grade math proficiency, while New Providence Elementary (95th percentile) and Beechwood Middle (93rd percentile) are also 5-star standouts. Lakeside Middle and Meadow Glen Middle round out the high-achieving middle schools, feeding into Lexington High and River Bluff High, which boasts a 94.1% graduation rate. In contrast, Pelion High (37th percentile) and Forts Pond Elementary (13th percentile) are the lowest performers, with White Knoll High and Pelion Middle also struggling.

Chronic absenteeism is the clearest predictor of success: top schools like Lake Murray Elementary (7.0%) and Midway Elementary (7.6%) have rates under 10%, while Pelion High (48.1%) and Pelion Middle (40.8%) exceed 40%. The district also faces an "Algebra Cliff"—middle school advanced students pass Algebra 1 at near 100%, but high school-wide proficiency drops to 29-39%. Notably, the district spends more per student at struggling schools (Saxe Gotha Elementary at $18,479) than at top performers (Lake Murray Elementary at $14,296), yet this funding hasn't yet closed the achievement gap. Gilbert High offers a bright spot, jumping from the 59th to 80th percentile in one year.
