Summary

Pleasant Hill Elementary is a well-regarded, mid-sized elementary school in Lexington, SC, serving 846 students in grades PK-5 within the highly rated Lexington 01 school district.

This school truly shines in reading and writing. In fact, Pleasant Hill’s English Language Arts (ELA) scores are a standout—roughly 20 percentage points higher than the state average in every grade level. For example, 85.5% of 3rd graders, 82.4% of 4th graders, and 82.6% of 5th graders are proficient in ELA. Another major strength is attendance: only 10.6% of students are chronically absent, which is less than half the state average (22.3%) and a strong sign of student engagement and family support. The school also does an excellent job supporting students from lower-income backgrounds, with these students performing in the 76th percentile statewide. All of this is accomplished while spending less per student ($13,386) than many nearby schools, making it a highly efficient choice.

However, there are a couple of areas to watch. While ELA is a clear strength, math proficiency takes a noticeable dip by 5th grade, falling to 51.9%—just barely above the state average and below the district average. Additionally, the school’s Gifted and Talented (GT) program is not as strong as its overall academics, ranking in the 59th percentile. It’s also worth noting that Pleasant Hill sits in the shadow of two elite neighbors: Lake Murray Elementary (ranked 28th in the state) and New Providence Elementary (ranked 35th), both of which outperform it in nearly every subject. Still, Pleasant Hill is a reliable, 4-star school with a strong track record of helping a diverse range of students succeed, making it a solid choice for most families.
