South Kingstown

South Kingstown, Rhode Island, has five public schools serving students from elementary through high school: Peace Dale School, West Kingston School, Matunuck School, Broad Rock Middle School and South Kingstown High. The latest reported results show all five above state proficiency rates in their matched assessments, with the strongest elementary averages in ELA and math. The clearest overall takeaway is that students across the area are performing above state levels, though subject strengths differ by school.

Matunuck stands out among the elementary schools in math and science, with 64.5% and 47.2% proficient; those results are 6.2 and 4.3 percentage points above the next-highest school in each subject. Peace Dale ties with Matunuck for the top elementary ELA result at 62.0%, while West Kingston is lowest in elementary ELA and math, at 56.4% and 54.7%. Its scores are 5.6 points below the ELA leaders and 9.8 below the math leader. Broad Rock is a science standout: 61.4% proficient, 30.3 points above the state. South Kingstown High also exceeds state results across its listed tests, including a 30.6-point lead in PSAT10 math.

Elementary ELA and math improved across the three schools, while science declined: average proficiency rose 9.5 points in ELA and 9.2 in math from 2024–25 to 2025–26, but fell 9.2 in science. At the high school, SAT gaps with the state narrowed, while PSAT10 gaps widened, so grade-specific strengths may matter when comparing options. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 rankings place Broad Rock at the 90th percentile, Matunuck at the 89th, Peace Dale at the 84th, West Kingston at the 83rd and South Kingstown High at the 83rd. Among elementary schools, West Kingston has the highest student–teacher ratio (14.9) and lowest listed free/reduced-lunch rate (21.41%), while Matunuck has the lowest ratio (11.1); these are useful points of context, not explanations of results.
