Middletown

Middletown has five schools serving 1,819 students, from elementary grades through high school: three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The elementary schools cover different grade spans, with Aquidneck School and Forest Avenue School serving through grade 3, and Gaudet Learning Academy serving grades 4–5. The clearest same-grade comparison shows the largest difference: in grade 3, Aquidneck is 16.7 percentage points ahead of Forest Avenue in ELA and 20.9 points ahead in math.

Aquidneck School is the strongest elementary standout in the available grade 3 comparison: 64.4% of students are proficient in ELA and 61.5% in math, compared with 47.7% and 40.6% at Forest Avenue School. Gaudet Learning Academy also stands out, with grade 4 results 12.1–14.7 points above state figures and grade 5 ELA 17.6 points above. Middletown High School is above state results in its reported SAT and PSAT measures. The clearest area of concern is Gaudet Middle School’s ELA: its all-grades result is 32.7%, 0.4 points below the state, and grade 7 math is 21.1%, 6.8 points below. Its grade 8 math, however, is a strong 50.7%, 20.5 points above state.

Recent results vary by school and subject rather than showing one area-wide trend: Gaudet Middle School’s ELA fell 7.5 points year over year, while Gaudet Learning Academy’s math rose 11.5 points; Middletown High School’s PSAT math rose 9.1 points. SchoolDigger gives Aquidneck 5 stars and a 90th-percentile ranking, while Forest Avenue, Gaudet Middle and Middletown High each have 3 stars; these rankings reflect different school-level comparison groups. Student–teacher ratios range from 10.6 to 12.5, and free/reduced-lunch rates from 28.15% to 40.54%, providing context but not an explanation for results. Year-to-year changes compare school results, not the same students followed over time.
