Chariho

Chariho has six schools serving grades K–12 and 2,725 students: three elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative school. Among the elementary schools, 2025–26 proficiency ranges from 35.7% to 47.2% in ELA and from 39.3% to 52.0% in math; the middle and high schools also report results above state levels in their reported assessments. The clearest takeaway is that the elementary schools are all above state averages overall, but differ substantially from one another.

Richmond Elementary School leads the elementary group, with 47.2% proficient in ELA and 52.0% in math; Ashaway Elementary School is close in math at 50.5%. Charlestown Elementary School is lowest among the three at 35.7% in ELA and 39.3% in math, and its grade 3 math result of 26.2% is below the state’s 37.1%. The strongest subject result is at Chariho Regional Middle School, where science proficiency is 56.7%, 25.6 points above the state. Chariho High School also stands out: grade 10 PSAT10 math is 31.9 points above the state, and its graduation rate is 97.8%. Chariho Alternative Learning A has lower reported results, but serves a much broader grade span, so it is not a direct comparison.

Elementary results fell overall from 2024–25 to 2025–26: average ELA declined 12.3 points and average math 10.5 points, although Richmond math rose 3.1 points. Middle-school results were steady or slightly higher, while high-school results diverged by grade: grade 11 SAT proficiency dipped, but grade 10 PSAT10 proficiency rose. SchoolDigger rankings also show the high school holding 7th place statewide, while the elementary schools slipped in relative rank; Ashaway moved from 4th to 44th, Richmond from 19th to 35th and Charlestown from 45th to 72nd. As context, Ashaway has a higher reported free/reduced-lunch rate and student–teacher ratio than the other elementary schools, but its math result is close to Richmond’s; these figures are observations, not explanations of achievement.
