Summary

Drexel Hill Middle School is a public middle school serving grades 6-8 in the Upper Darby School District, with an enrollment of 1,290 students. The school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Drexel Hill Middle School's academic performance significantly underperforms compared to the state and its own school district on standardized tests, with only 12.1% of students proficient or better in PSSA Math and 27% proficient in English Language Arts.

The school also struggles to serve certain student subgroups effectively, with its rankings for Asian, Hispanic, White, and Multi-racial students all in the bottom quarter of Pennsylvania middle schools. Additionally, Drexel Hill Middle School has extremely high rates of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, reaching 100% in recent years, indicating a high-poverty student population that the school has struggled to support academically.

In contrast, nearby schools like Bala-Cynwyd Middle School and Haverford Middle School have proficiency rates over 70% in math and English, more than double Drexel Hill Middle School's rates. The school's relatively low per-student spending and high student-teacher ratio suggest it may be operating with resource constraints that could be impacting its ability to provide a high-quality education.

Open Quote DHMS is by far a great school! There is so much to offer these young kids and the teachers are magnificant. I have children in DH now and I just cannot say enough good things about this school, the teachers and the principal, Mr. Manfre. They don't put up with the nonsense that Beverly Hills puts up with, nor do they have to as long as they keep the riff raff out of DH. - keep the bad ones over at Beverly Hills. Drexel Hill is still a good school and my children and I are very proud of our middle school! Close Quote
