Summary

Upper Darby Senior High School is a public high school located in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, serving 4,231 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Upper Darby School District, which is ranked 519 out of 606 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite its large student population, Upper Darby Senior High School has consistently performed poorly compared to other Pennsylvania high schools, ranking between 391 and 575 out of 537-693 schools over the past 10 years. The school has maintained a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger, with a brief increase to 2 stars in the 2021-2022 school year. In contrast, nearby high-performing schools like Springfield High School and Haverford Senior High School rank in the top 5% and 10% of Pennsylvania high schools, respectively, and have 5-star ratings.

The school's performance across different student subgroups is also generally low, with most subgroups ranking in the bottom half or bottom quarter of Pennsylvania high schools. Additionally, the school's academic performance on the Keystone Exams, Pennsylvania's standardized tests, is significantly below the state average across all subject areas. While the school's per-student spending and student-teacher ratio are generally in line with or slightly below the state average, the consistently low performance and equity concerns suggest that the school and district may face significant challenges in providing a high-quality education to its diverse student population.

Open Quote This school has approximately 4000 students from all socioeconomic backgrounds and over 70 countries. They have award winning music programs, sports programs, etc! A large pool, performing arts center, after school programs for every interest, and dedicated staff mean that if you want something positive and constructive to do, you'll find it here. Perhaps this would be one of the top schools in the country if all factors were considered. I don't know how many English speaking scholars would do well on a standardized test in say, Arabic! Yet those who know little, if any, English are required to take tests in English and these scores are factored in to the High School's "grade".

While we don't appreciate the behavior of some of our 'neighbors', our middle and high school age children beg us not to consider moving until they are out of school! Close Quote
