Cummings Elementary School is a public K–5 school in Keizer, Oregon, serving 397 students as part of the Salem-Keizer School District 24J, a district that itself ranks in the bottom quarter of Oregon schools.

Cummings' own results have eroded over the past decade. It was a 2-star, top-40th-percentile school in 2014–15, but has spent the last five reported years in the single digits to mid-teens, landing at the 9th percentile in 2025–26 — a small improvement over the prior year's 4th percentile, though still near the very bottom statewide. Within its immediate neighborhood, that ranking actually places it mid-pack: Cummings sits ahead of Hallman Elementary School, Washington Elementary School, Keizer Elementary School, Weddle Elementary School, Kennedy Elementary School, and Highland Elementary School, but well behind Brush College Elementary School (61st percentile) and Gubser Elementary School (36th). The sharpest academic deficits are in science (8.1% proficient, about a quarter of the state rate) and third-grade English language arts (15.5%, roughly half the district rate), even though the older grades come much closer to district norms. Chronic absenteeism, at 39.8%, beats the district but is still 6.3 points worse than the state and nearly double Brush College's — the most directly actionable gap. Per-student spending has climbed to $21,806 without a matching gain in proficiency.

There are real bright spots. In 2025–26, students in special education rose from the 14th to the 28th percentile, and low-income students climbed from the 8th to the 31st percentile — both still below average, but meaningful one-year gains. Nearby, Eagle Charter School posts far stronger results, but it is a smaller charter with a different enrollment model and a lower low-income share, so it is not a like-for-like comparison.
