Summary

Faubion Elementary School is a public school in Portland, Oregon, serving grades PK-8 with a total enrollment of 570 students. While the school is part of the highly-ranked Portland School District 1J, Faubion consistently ranks in the bottom half of Oregon elementary schools and struggles with academic performance, high chronic absenteeism, and challenges serving its diverse student population.

Faubion's academic performance on state assessments is significantly lower than the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the percentage of Faubion students proficient or better in English Language Arts ranged from 14.7% to 31.3%, compared to the district's 55.2%-59.5% and the state's 40.3%-46.7%. Similarly, Faubion's Mathematics proficiency rates were also much lower than the district and state. The school's high percentage of students from disadvantaged backgrounds, with 83.51% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, may contribute to these academic challenges.

While Faubion's per-student spending is relatively high, and its student-teacher ratio is low, suggesting access to resources, the school's performance lags significantly behind many of the higher-performing nearby schools in the Portland School District 1J, such as Alameda Elementary, Beverly Cleary School, and Sabin Elementary. Addressing the challenges at Faubion will require targeted strategies and support from the district to improve outcomes for all students.

Open Quote Its been a total of 6 years, yet I still remember my hatred for this school. The teachers have no symphony for students, and if there's bullying going on, you can bet that nothing will be done. The teachers are strict, but not in a good way. Not in a way that they care about the students to make them better, for the 4 years I was there I felt like I was not wanted. Some of my worst memories come from this school, my favorite memory was crushed by the staff. My friends and I lived on the Cul-De-Sac, we decided to build a tree-house. This tree-house was the best thing at recess, and we worked outside of school to build it. The night we finished putting the tree-house, it was torn down, our belongings stolen, and the tree entirely cut down. You may be saying, how do you know it was the school who cut it down? Well there was a printed note with the schools principles and staff that simply read (Which was not in the list of rules at the time) DO NOT BUILD ON SCHOOL PROPERTY as well as the closing that is on every Faubion paper.
So basically, do I recommend this school? No. I suggest you steer far from it as possible. Close Quote
